Name Your Wyoming LLC — Step 1 of 8
Choose an allowed LLC name, then search Wyoming's records using the state's Contains method. Wyoming ignores many small differences—including singular/plural forms, punctuation, spacing, capitalization and entity designators—so a genuinely different word, letter or numeral matters.
Written & verified by Enjoys-life Team, Enjoys-life · Updated August 2026A Wyoming LLC name must include an allowed LLC designation and be distinguishable on the Secretary of State's records. Use the free WyoBiz search and select Contains. Wyoming does not treat singular/plural changes, spacing, capitalization, punctuation, many entity designators, or words such as Company/Co/The/And/&/A as distinguishing differences. An available name can be reserved for 120 days if you are not ready to file.

Wyoming's LLC Naming Rules
Wyoming's naming rules start with Wyo. Stat. §17-29-108 and the Secretary of State's current naming guide: use an allowed LLC designation, make the name distinguishable on state records, and watch for terms that trigger additional review. Get all three right and your Articles of Organization sail through.
- Include a designator: "Limited Liability Company," "Limited Company," "LLC," "L.L.C.," "LC," or "L.C." You may abbreviate "Limited" to "Ltd." and "Company" to "Co."
- Be distinguishable from every existing Wyoming entity name on file with the Secretary of State.
- Avoid conflicting entity indicators: Wyoming's naming guide says conflicting corporate indicators in an LLC name are prohibited. Certain education and banking terms require additional review and paper filing.
Words that can trigger additional review
Wyoming's current naming guide lists education-related terms such as academy, college, education, institute, school, and university, plus banking-related terms such as bank, banc, banker, PTC, and trust, as terms that may require approval and paper filing. That is different from saying every one of these words is automatically prohibited.
Wyoming's distinguishability test is unusually exactSingular/plural forms, Company/Co, The/And/&/A, spacing, capitalization, punctuation, special characters, and entity designations do not create a distinguishable name. The Secretary of State recommends searching with the Contains option and comparing only distinguishable words and characters.

Wyoming Name Compliance Checker
Type your proposed name to check the LLC designation, conflicting corporate indicators, and words that may require additional Wyoming review. Then use the official WyoBiz search to determine distinguishability.
This checks formatting and restricted words only. It does NOT confirm the name is available — always run the official WyoBiz business search before filing. Not legal advice.
Wyoming's distinguishability test is strictThe state ignores spaces, punctuation, capitalization, designators, and the words "The," "A," "And," and "&." Crucially, Wyoming also treats singular and plural as the same — so if "Mountain Peak LLC" exists, you can't register "Mountain Peaks LLC." You need a genuinely different word, not a tweak.
How to Search & Reserve Your Name
- Search WyoBiz: use the Secretary of State's free Business Search and try the core words without the designator, using the "Contains" filter.
- Check trademarks: run a quick USPTO search — a name can be free in Wyoming but federally trademarked.
- Reserve if needed: Wyoming law allows an available LLC name to be reserved for 120 days. Check the current Reservation of Name form for the filing fee and submission instructions before mailing.
- Grab the domain and social handles while you're at it, so your brand is consistent.
